Our new favourite interface design technique may have been born from a temporary lack of writing space in our new studio, but even when we do get around to covering a wall with blackboard paint, coloured card may be here to stay.

Armed only with a box of scrap offcuts and a paper trimmer, we were soon physically laying out screen after screen for Data Carton. Being able to actually reach out and touch your tabs, forms and widgets makes the whole process a lot more tangible, and switching things around when left-should-be-right and right-should-be-left is of course a breeze. Dry-wipe begone!

We’d like to introduce our latest software project in development – Data Carton.

Data Carton is a lightweight, self-hosting CMS system aimed at freelancers and small studios who don’t want to worry about databases or server scripting too much.

Tired of overbearing content management systems with feature overkill and installation requirements? Are you a designer who can cope with XHTML and CSS, but server-side scripting and dynamic content is not your forté? Then Data Carton is your solution. It will let you construct your data layout via an intuitive drag-and-drop interface and then generate the relevant code to copy and paste into the website. The system will also allow the final client to login and modify the data.

1. The feature list will be small.

2. Simplicity will be huge.

3. The interface will be lovely.

Please sign up to the mailing list to be kept informed of the project’s progress.

I just wanted to link to some interesting stuff that I found while the coffee was brewing this morning.

First off, we have some amazing paperwork from Danish Peter Callesen.

Here’s what he says about his work:

“Lately I have been working almost exclusively with white paper in different objects, paper cuts, installations and performances. Some of these objects and installations are copies of stairs and ladders made out of thin paper.”

Secondly, an environmental educator from Make Visual.

Now Look What You Did

That’s all for now folks – enjoy!

After an Easter break in Berlin, where I met the wonderful Oli from Ice Cream For Free and the fabulous Andreas from Pixelate, we are fully refreshed and ready for the move into our new studio this weekend. We took some time out from packing things into boxes to erect a makeshift sign in our new window using electrical tape and hastily cut cardboard, which you may have seen if you’ve visited Gothergade recently (and live in Copenhagen of course).

As long as we don’t drop anything too important during the move, we should reopen on Monday whereupon you’re welcome to call in for coffee (or maybe bring your own from the café downstairs). In the meantime, we’ve added a few new projects to our on-line portfolio. Enjoy!
