We presented our work and ideals at last night’s SweetTalk Copenhagen. We met lots of nice people and had a great time. The event was filmed and I believe the footage, along with some more photos and copies of our slides, will be available shortly on the SweetTalk site.

Tak for sidst!

When we ask freelancers to come into our studio and work on a project, we typically estimate the time required and then agree an hourly rate. We’d booked David Nagel for two weeks and due to some very hard work, he finished two days ahead of schedule. Rather than penalise his efforts, we decided to keep him on for the rest of the agreed time and give him a wall to paint. This is what he came up with to make our meeting room happier:

Botega Arette:
Visuals for television program “the 11th hour” and MTV, art exhibition at doodletoown, loads of graphic identities, plus they are some of the biggest providers of nightlife visuals in Copenhagen … These guys are going up, and they are doing it fast…

The Inoue Brothers:
The two Japanese brothers, who run around doing their own clothing company, graphic design, scenografi for MTV and shops and in-between they find the time to put up an art exhibition with lost Basquiat photos, what these guys will tell us about no-one knows, but it will, most definitely, be interesting.

Spoiled Milk:
In the last few weeks they have built an entire city out of cardboard in their office on Gothersgade and put it in a field for an album cover – this Anglo-Danish graphic and web design company know all the best parties that are on and also have great beards. And as if it couldn’t get any better they are damn fine designers too.

Check out www.myspace.com/sweettalkcopenhagen for some pics of last shows and updates if we can get the time to update it. And very soon – check out the slightly less than updated www.sweettalkcopenhagen.com. We’ll have it fresh as a daisy soon.

SCIENCE vs ART

September 10, 2007  /  Russell Quinn  /  News

David Nagel was our very first intern at the beginning of the year and we’re pleased to have him back in the studio for a few weeks working as a freelancer on some client projects. He’s currently on a summer break from his studies at HFK in Bremen, Germany and it’s always a delight to set him to task in Copenhagen.

Check out his portfolio here.

We’ve been in our new studio for almost six months now and so it’s a scandal that our temporary window sign was still visible. Our only excuse was that new windows are being fitted during the winter and we were waiting for that, but enough is enough, so we spent today making a new lightbox sign. If you live in Copenhagen then you’ll finally be able to see our proper logo on Gothersgade, rather than something made from electrical tape and faded neon cardboard.

A craft knife, some cardboard, some glue and a whole heap of hours later… a logo!

Lucy Reynell kept us company working on Being Abroad related activities and designing posters for our forthcoming “Science V Art” film evening.

September 7, 2007  /  Russell Quinn  /  News

For those that don’t remember, the Being Abroad project has been running for almost a year now. Its aim is to build up a collection of experiences related to living abroad for a book.

We collected text-based submissions last winter and then launched the Sketchbook Challenge where 10 books were sent around the world to 100 people.

Now nearly 8 months on (and mainly due to the tireless administration and encouragement of contributors by project coordinator Lucy Reynell), the first one has returned back to our studio in Copenhagen. It’s very exciting to finally see some work and we’re very impressed with the quality. We just have to wait for the others to come home now.

UPDATE: After a small delay, the shop really is open now!

We are proud to announce that the new Tom’s Apparel webshop is live!

Our design and customisations run on top of the fantastic Shopify platform. Because we’re so enthusiastic about the system we will soon be following up our blogging seminar with one on how small retailers can join the on-line marketplace. If you’d like to receive advance notification of this event then please join the mailing list

In the meantime if you fancy browsing an extensive collection of limited-edition T-shirts from top graphic designers, then I’m sure Tom would happy to see you:
