Casper has always loved grids and there’s nothing he likes better than filling up his Photoshop files with as many pretty cyan lines as he can, but since a copy of Grid Systems / Raster Systeme (dual English / German language version) arrived on his desk he’s begun to hone the art to a whole new level.

This is what was awaiting me this morning, ready to be turned into Flash… now if I can just find the graphics….

…especially if you know where to go. At Spoiled Milk we heavily use new media to source talented employees, expand our freelance network and meet the sort of clients we enjoy working with.

Our favourite places to go have been:

* Linkedin put us in contact with freelance specialists (often abroad) and new clients.

* 37signals Job Board provided us with amazing tech people.

* Link UP is where we found our in-house artist, Jakob and gave away light-boxes.

* Jobindex is terribly out-dated, but is credited for leading us to our programming magician, Xi.

Now, we ask ourselves if the act of connecting people with compatible interests – e.g. seeking/hiring, buying/selling – could be arranged in a simpler, faster and cheaper way for everyone involved.

We believe the solution lies in RSS, which is claimed to be the new radio. By simplifying the overgrown portals and customizing needs onto the correctly specified frequencies, attention-seeking individuals can stop yelling and start justifying their existence in a friendly voice-over.

In short, we have realised that simplicity governed by the user will replace multi-functionalities of closed communities. What this “enlightenment” has led to, will soon be announced on this blog.

We always enjoy hearing clients say nice words about us, but not even a thesis about how great we are can beat someone turning up at our door with “thank you” cakes. Mmmm!

We know our website is a little out of date, both because it doesn’t feature our latest wonderful work, but also because it doesn’t truly reflect the people in the engine room. To rectify this, a new website and brand-tweaking is on its way, but in the meanwhile please enjoy this team ‘photo’ courtesy of David Nagel.

Finally another one of our album covers is hitting the Danish market. This time it’s Velour’s “Undress Your Alibis” which will be released on Monday, February 18th. So it’s easy for you to recognise the CD, we’ve attached a picture of it below.

Danish newspaper Politikken have reviewed the CD – Read the full review here (in danish).

You can also listen to their catchy music at www.velournet.dk. Or watch the music video for “Janey Black” here.

Using dynamic content from different logic sources on a single web page will always be vulnerable to clashes. Often it’s between advertising and content, and it’s not unusual to see screengrabs of McDonald’s Happy Meal™ campaigns positioned next to articles about childhood obesity, or adverts for 4×4 utility vehicles sitting atop the latest report on global warming.

The recent advancements in online advertising have fuelled content matching though technologies like Adwords and their ilk, but there seems to be little work done in preventing content clashing. As page objects start learning more and more about themselves in order to find appropriate partners, a parallel warning system should be as vital. If a razor blade commercial starts looking past the fact that it gets on pretty great with unwanted beards, and also considers that it’s not the best friend of a suicide report then we can hopefully raise the logic of sensitivity a little.

While these things will most probably result from the advertising industry, they will hopefully be useful in all realms of future media. This is a recent example of a page from Denmark’s TV2 reporting on a day of very heavy storms. On first glance it seems as if the entire layout is awash with photos of the day’s action, but two of the thumbnails on the right are actually from a totally unrelated series of ice photos from the 1950’s.
